Learning Technology Application Curriculum Development

Learning Technology Application Curriculum Development

Learning technology application can be difficult for both new and seasoned practitioners. In this project, I developed learning technology application curriculum used to create courses for an Association for Talent Development (ATD) certificate program.

This project was a little bit different than others for me as I served as the subject matter expert for the creation of ATD's Learning Technologies certificate curriculum. In this capacity, I worked with ATD Education (an incredible team might I add) along with GP Strategies to bring these courses to life. The ATD Capability Model which launched in 2020 found via self-assessment that many L&D practitioners rated themselves low in their ability to evaluate and use learning technologies. I was contacted by national ATD to use the ATD Book of Knowledge (BoK) as a starting point and then to create curriculum around the following topics:

Administering a Learning Technology Ecosystem
Creating Accessible Learning Experiences
Evaluating and Selecting E-Learning Software Tools
Selecting and Implementing Learning Technologies
Methods and Techniques for Testing Learning Technologies
Data Standard Formats
xAPI Foundations
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality for Learning Professionals
Leveraging Social Media for Learning
Principles of User Interface Design
Identifying and Articulating Technology System Requirements

If someone completes all these courses, they will then be eligible for a capstone class where they will need to apply the content from the courses to a scenario and complete a project to earn the full certificate. The courses launched in the Spring of 2021.
This project was rewarding and fun, especially since I was able to bring in perspectives from my career being an ID in higher education, corporate, and consultant. Additionally, the courses were built with accessibility considerations and provides practical examples to what the content can look like in multiple settings.
I am still involved with this project and I facilitate the Creating Accessible Learning Experiences and Capstone courses.
